Description

Selfheal (Prunella vulgaris)

Found growing in grassland throughout Scotland, Selfheal produces dense spikes of purple flowers in late spring. Popular with bumblebees, its common name comes from its traditional uses as a treatment for wounds. Up to 30cm tall. .

Sowing: Can be sown at any time of year, but best in early autumn or in spring. Sow in trays or pots of moist compost and transplant to an open site, or sow directly on the surface of a fine-raked seed bed pressing down lightly. Water well and keep young plants weeded.
