Carline Thistle (Carlina vulgaris)
Carline Thistle is a striking plant with spiky green leaves and unusual straw textured flowers. Found in the wild on light, sandy soils in sunny places in coastal Scotland, it is a biennial attractive to bees. Up to 30cm tall.
Sowing: Can be sown at any time of year, but best in early autumn or in spring. Sow in trays or pots of moist compost and transplant to a well-drained, sunny site. Water well, keep young plants weeded.
50-150 seeds per packet.
