Description

Kidney Vetch (Anthyllis vulneraria)

Usually found near the coast, Kidney Vetch is an attractive perennial plant suitable for any sunny, well-drained site.  It is low growing, with oval shaped leaves & slender, yellow, pea-like flowers grouped together in an unusual, slightly fluzzy, flower head. Attractive to bumblebees & butterflies, it is the food plant for the caterpillar of the increasingly rare Small Blue Butterfly.

Sowing:  Can be sown at any time of year, but best in early autumn or in spring.  Sow in trays or pots of moist compost & transplant to a well-drained, sunny site or scatter the seed onto a fine raked seed bed & firm down well.  Keep young plants watered & weeded.
