Thrift (Armeria maritima)
Also known as Sea Pink, Thrift is a common perennial of coastal rocks and grassland and exposed mountain crags. Thrift forms dense cushions of narrow, fleshy leaves and produces abundant pink, ’pom-pom’ shaped flowers on stalks up to 25cm tall.
Sowing: Can be sown at any time of year, but best in early autumn or in spring. Sow in trays or pots of moist compost and transplant to an sunny, well drained site or scatter directly onto a fine raked seed bed and firm down well. Water well and keep the young plants weeded.
