Rock Rose (Helianthemum nummularium)
Producing a blaze of bright yellow flowers throughout the summer, Rock Rose is a low growing perennial of sunny, lime-rich banks & cliffs, mainly in the south and east of Scotland. It is a good plant for rockeries, walls & other dry places and is popular with honeybees and butterflies, this plant is the most important foodplant for the caterpillars of the Northern Brown Argus butterfly.
Sowing: Can be sown at any time of year, but best in early autumn or in spring. Sow in trays or pots of moist compost and transplant to a well-drained, sunny site or scatter the seed directly onto a fine-raked seed bed and firm down well. Water well and keep young plants weeded.
